oh, hey

It's been a while - 2 months - yikes. A lot has happened but not a lot of sewing. For some reason I just couldn't bring myself to sew. I went home to California (from Ohio) twice in the last month. First my step-sister got married and for the second trip it was because my little brother got married. Both trips were a lot of fun! When I was leaving the second time I was ready to move back but now that I am home I'm not too sure anymore - it's the packing and moving across country thing - I'm just not ready for that again.

Anyhow - some things I have made in the last few days

I've also made quite a few wallets! 2 and a half larger ones and about 4 so far of a new design I made up for mini wallets.

swap update

I said I would update with a pic of what I made for my softie swap partner - well - I forgot to take a picture. But look what she made me -

I love it! The cutest walrus ever! He's even holding a fish!

I've been crocheting quite a bit as I have found the starghan pattern - I'm hooked on it. I've started 3 already and haven't even finished one yet :) The camouflage one won't get finished - I went to the store to get more yarn for it but can't find that colorway anywhere! I guess that's okay because Matilda seems to like it how it is - every picture I took of it she was right there rubbing up on it.

As if 3 starghans isn't enough I am also working on a Waikiki Scarf and 2 custom orders - 1 for a purse from the NYC fabric that I used on a clutch and wallet in my etsy shop and 1 for jewelry pouches for MeadowCrafts who will be using them for a craft fair in June.

swaps

I love swaps! I love seeing what other people make just based off what they read about you. I just finished the zipper pouch with surprise inside swap on swap-bot. I made my down stream partner a wristlet with a detachable strap. Inside I made her a little card holder and also sent some toys for her cats. She's an outdoorsy girl so I used the fabric below. I always forget to take pictures of the completed stuff that I make for swaps :( but I think she liked what I sent. Her cats did. She is a substitute teacher and said that the pouch was perfect for putting all her stuff in her purse.


This is what I got from my up stream partner. It's an upcylced pouch from a rice bag - amazing. Inside was pink fabric, lace, beaded ribbon, a cute pink flamingo button some cards and candy. Wow - everything was perfect - I love it ALL!

So - I was googling myself (tell me you do that too) and found this. I don't know what Stylehive is yet - but i need to am going to find out. People have added my frame purse to their "hive". I don't know what this means but this is way cool! But - I do know that it means people outside of etsy are seeing me too!

moon trees and bacon

So - it's been a few days ...

Last weekend we went to see a moon tree - very cool - and after we went to a Pirates game - also cool. The trip took a while. We drove to southern Ohio for the moon tree then through West Virginia and into Pennsylvania. It was my first time in WV. I was very excited to see three states in one day and one very cool tree. If you are unfamiliar with moon trees you should visit this site. They started out as seeds that went to space aboard Apollo 14 on January 31, 1971. I didn't bring a camera but did have my phone so I took a few pics.

Other than that I have added a few new things to my etsy shop. I have been sewing a new bag but have put that on hold until my new craft obsession passes. I've gotten the bug to create jewelry. As in shrinky dink necklaces. Here's one to look at Oh - and I made bacon

I've been spending a lot of time outdoors and not sewing - since I still don't have any purse frames the need to sew feeling just isn't happening. Here are some pics from my backyard/patio





This is what I managed to sew today - this was the only pic I took before my battery died. The inside is solid pink with a cell phone pocket and another little pocket. I like how it turned out. When I started it I had no plan and just started cutting strips of fabric and also found out that the fleece interfacing I got was not fusible so this was my first project with sew in interfacing.

So - I decided to sell the Spanish Lace purse and card holder on Etsy. I also made similar ones from Amy Butler fabric.

Those were my last two purse frames. :( I'm surprised that those are so hard to find. No place has them locally. And for some reason - every time I make a card holder they come out in different sizes - I need to make some sort of pattern.

When I read this I almost cried - It means so much when someone else - other than your mom - likes what you make. I really just wish I had taken a picture of what I made. It was for a swap based off this book. I made the Bag and the Make-up Bag. They were both really fun to make.

royal mail

I sold my first item on etsy - very exciting! It was the Pen Pal Purse and it went to Finland. I wanted to jump up and down and scream when I checked my email! Okay - so I did jump up and down a little and maybe I squealed. On my way to the post office I stopped to pick up my mail and what was there - a package - from London!

It took everything I had in me not to rip open the box right then and there - I waited - until I got home. I was going nuts wanting to see what was inside. Here it is -

4 fat quarters, a really cute quilting book (all in japanese), pink thread, a passport holder, hello kitty stationery, and lace - I love it all.

I spent a lot of yesterday sewing. I made another frame purse and a matching wallet/card holder. They turned out so cute - I am pretty sure I am keeping them for myself!

The fabric is Spanish Lace by Alexander Henry.

I got the tulip clutch done and it's already up on etsy. Someone has even added it to their faves. That makes me happy. I haven't sold anything yet but people heart me! I've added a few other things to my shop too - card holders, a frame purse, more monkeys. And look what I bought today -

More socks - for monkeys. I have really fallen in love with making them. And Matilda likes to cuddle with them. Here she is with one -

So - still haven't finished the clutch. I went to JoAnn to get a bias tape maker. They only had a halp inch maker -I need a one inch maker since the tape will be folded over. I got the half inch anyway - who knows when I'll need it but I'm sure I will - someday. I ordered the one inch online with a bunch of other stuff and some fabric. I hope it's here soon.

Yestday was the first day in a LONG time that I didn't sew. It was also the first day in a LONG time that I didn't work from home. It was pretty fun seeing some of the people that I used to work with.

tulip clutch

This is what I'm working on now. It's not finished but it's almost there. It will have bias binding around the top that will also create the handles. I just have to go to the store now and buy some bias tape maker things. Okay - I forget what they are called :)

It's pretty simple - cotton fabric with a fleece lining. When I'm done it'll be added to my Etsy shop.

I'm back

I'm back ... in a whole new way. I have a camera and am ready to snap pics of all of my creations. Well - almost all of them. I'll be posting sewing and maybe some crochet/knit projects. I feel like I'm a little late in the game but I just picked up Bend the Rules Sewing today. Had to go to two different book stores to find it - but I got it!
